A Maths Problem That's Still Unthinkable How?

There was three men who owned 17 camels which they have inherited with a different ratios. The first one owns half (1/2), the second one owns a third (1/3) and the third one owns nineth (1/9).

According to the ratios splitting will be as follows:

The first one owns 17 ÷ 2 = 8.5
The second one owns 17 ÷ 3 = 5.67
The third one owns 17 ÷ 9 = 1.89

They could not find a way of dividing these camels without slaughtering or selling part of it before the division.

Their only solution was to go to Imam Ali (Alay hissalam) for his guidance and to solve their problem. Imam Ali (A) asked them if He could add his camel to their camels. They agreed with astonishment!! Then the number of the camels became 18 camels.

Then Imam Ali (A) divided the camels as follows:

The first one owns 18 ÷ 2 = 9
The second one owns 18 ÷ 3 = 6
And the third one owns 18 ÷ 9 = 2

Solution: 9 + 6 + 2 = 17

The strange thing with this solution is that the total of the above is 17 camels after division. So each person takes his right in the inheritance and The Imam gains back his camel (the eighteenth).

This is just one of Imam Ali’s magnificent Masterpieces !
